As we were playing in the playroom this morning, Avery was babbling and Asher said “Maybe Avy is going to speak Spanish.”
Last week on our walk Asher had two flowers to blow and make wishes on. First he wished for a real zambonie. Then he wished for a bowl full of ice cream.
On our way to Avy’s doctor appointment I heard Asher say “Avery, you have to go to the doctor. You may have to get a shot and it will hurt a little bit, but you’ll be alright.”
Last weekend we got to spend the weekend in Tyler. Asher had a blast fishing, riding horses, and helping take care of a brand new calf. I overheard him tell one of the friends that lived there “I want to be one of you guys when I grow up”. He really did love it and cried when we had to leave on Sunday.
JR came home with our new iRobot Roomba last week (LOVE it!). Asher was amazed by it and followed it around the house for an hour. At bedtime when we said our prayers Asher was most thankful for our new vacuum!
I find myself thinking Avy is still 6 months. It’s hard for me to accept she is closer to her 1st birthday than her actual birth day. Much like Asher at this age, Avy loves to eat. She can spend an hour in her highchair trying to pick up pieces of food and feed herself. Only about half of it makes it into her mouth. Zoe, our lab, is more than happy to clean up everything that falls to the floor. With the nicer weather lately, we’ve been able to go on lots of walks and she will finally stay in the stroller without complaining. Yay for me and my back! She loves to swing and watch our colorful windsock blow in the breeze. Avy has learned a few more signs this month. I’m not sure if her most recent one is supposed to be eat, Mommy, or Gramma. She has been learning funny new ways to get peoples attention by smacking her lips and fake coughing. This month I have also noticed some signs of a “Daddy’s Girl” developing. Her face always lights up when JR enters the room and a couple of times she has started to cry for him when he kisses her goodnight. Uh oh!
Last Tuesday was so beautiful, we had to go to the zoo!
I took Asher to the Frisco Dr. Pepper Star’s Center last Saturday afternoon for a ‘Dad’s and Lad’s’ skate. It was the first time for Asher to get all suited up in his hockey gear and get out on the ice with stick and puck. As a father, it was a moment I’d been looking forward to since the day we found out Sarah was preggo. I am so proud of him!
Asher had a blast and did great for his first time out. It was a little slow going at first, but he got the hang of it as the session went on. He scored his first goal and even threw his first body check!! (2:40 into the video!).

When I grow up, I am NOT going to marry a poor person!
jryarbrough.com is celebrating it’s 5th birthday this month!!
I created the original site using Dreamweaver with crappy, crappy frames. 5 years later, I finally went back to the drawing board and revamped the site using wordpress. I love it so far, but I’ve still got a lot of work to do to get the site looking just the way I want it. So you may notice lots of tweaks (big and small) as I tinker around with the aesthetics of the site.
Let me know what you think of our new look in the comments. Thanks!
At 7 months Avery likes to cruise around holding on to furniture, eat whenever we eat, try to feed herself, and ride around on Asher’s shoulders (with help). She is very ticklish, silly, a messy eater, and a very curious explorer. We can make her laugh by jumping around like fools, making silly faces, playing peekaboo, bouncing her, dancing, and chasing Asher around the kitchen. She is also starting to do baby sign language for milk and more. This first picture is my favorite of her, I just love that sweet smile!
