jryarbrough.com is celebrating it’s 5th birthday this month!!

I created the original site using Dreamweaver with crappy, crappy frames. 5 years later, I finally went back to the drawing board and revamped the site using wordpress. I love it so far, but I’ve still got a lot of work to do to get the site looking just the way I want it. So you may notice lots of tweaks (big and small) as I tinker around with the aesthetics of the site.

Let me know what you think of our new look in the comments. Thanks!

Avery is over 3 months now. She already has her own little personality. She prefers to be held up over your shoulder or standing, whichever way allows her to see the world better. Much like her brother, she likes to talk. She babbles and coos all day long. She does not like long rides in the car, especially if we have to stop at those pesky stop lights. She loves watching Asher. She is the perfect audience while he sings, dances, plays, and bounces off the walls. She wakes up happy in the morning. We listen on the monitor as she talks in her crib, slowly getting louder and louder until someone comes in to play. She is such a sweetie and we are glad she is a part of our family.

With a 3 year old in the house we hear “I can do it all by myself!” a lot. I am learning to let Asher do as much as he possibly can by himself. Wednesday morning he got dressed while I packed the diaper bag and loaded the car. Then we headed to McDonalds for a very nutritious breakfast. I watched Asher as he put on his sunglases, got out of the car and closed his door, crossed the street after carefully looking both ways and holding on to my hand, and decided what he wanted to eat. As I proudly watched my amazingly independent big boy swing open the door and march into the play area, I noticed his shorts were on backwards. I guess we all still need a little help now and then.

Okay, don’t get mad at me. I’m not bragging because it has nothing to do with me. It’s just that God has blessed us with a baby that loves her beauty rest. She usually sleeps about 8 hours, eats for 10 minutes, and then goes back to sleep for a few more hours. Last night I put Avy to bed at 7:30pm and she didn’t wake up until 6:45am! That is 11 hours, people! What?! Asher didn’t sleep that well until he was almost a year old. This is what she looked like when Asher and I went in to get her…

Last week, while driving in the car, Asher and I had an interesting conversation. Don’t forget that I have been a vegeterian for over 20 years…

Asher: Mommy, do you like guns?
Me: No I don’t, they can be dangerous.
Asher: The pretend ones are fun, I’ll teach you how to shoot and aim.
Me: Ummm, Okay.
Asher: Shooting is fun! You can shoot things and animals.
Me: I don’t want to hurt animals. I’d rather play something else.
Aher: It doesn’t hurt them mommy. It just kills them but they’re not sad. You gotta shoot them before they get you.

Grrrr.

We had a small party last week and Asher got to invite 3 friends since he is 3 years old! The kids splashed around in the backyard, played with silly string, and blew bubbles. It was very easy and low key. We all had fun, especially Asher.

1. You are thrilled to sleep for three consecutive hours without getting up to pee or feed/burp/change the baby.
2. It takes 2 hours until you can get into the shower. For 3 minutes.
3. At 10pm you realize you haven’t even stepped outside all day.
4. You leave a 10 minute face mask on for an hour and a half. Oops.
5. You are lucky to brush your teeth before noon.
6. You go out in public wearing one brown flip flop and one black one. (That was actually the first time around, right after I had Asher)
7. You can’t fathom there being any more poop left to be pooped.
8. You can take 100 photos of a sleeping baby. Sleeping.
9. Your favorite part of the day is getting your baby dressed in cute new clothes.
10. All you want to do is sit around and stare at your little miracle.
